Living with Allergies
- Keep the Bed and bed linen clean
- Protect the Mattress: Use quality encasement covers such as Astex "Pristine"® Encasements, or Astex "Active" Mattress Guards
- Protect Pillows: Use quality encasement covers such as Astex "Pristine"® Encasements, or Astex "Active" Duvet Guards
- Protect Duvets: Use quality encasement covers such as Astex "Pristine"® Encasements, or Astex "Active" Pillow Guards
- Protect Blankets by washing regularly every 4-6 weeks at temperatures of at least 60°C
- Replace curtains with vertical or horizontal wipeable blinds
- Remove carpets where practicable
- Use vacuum cleaners that have either HEPA filters or are approved by the British Allergy Foundation
- Vacuum carpets once per day
- Either frequently wash any soft toys at 60°C or
- Place the soft toy in a plastic bag and place in the freezer for 24 hours.
- Keep rooms well ventilated by opening windows
- Reduce humidity in rooms and do not dry clothes over radiotors, avoid cooking or bathing without ventilation
- Prevent animals especially cats entering rooms where allergy sufferers sleep
